Personal Development

We, at Cullybackey High, fully embrace the Northern Ireland Curriculum's focus on the development of skills and personal capabilities in and outside the classroom.

SPORTING ACTIVITIES
Pupils are introduced to as wide a variety of sports and games as the school's facilities allow. Pupils have access to many sports including: Hockey, Swimming, Tennis, Football, Athletics, Rugby, Badminton, Netball, Golf.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
There is a range of clubs and societies which pupils may enjoy either after school or at lunchtime.

MUSIC
The school is justifiably proud of the success of its Music Department and Year 8 pupils are encouraged to join the Choir and Orchestra which take part in many school and community events.

EDUCATIONAL VISITS
A range of educational visits and school trips are regularly undertaken, dependent on support. These enhance the learning which takes place in the classroom and offer the opportunity for enjoyment, excitement and further development.

CHARITY FUND RAISING AND COLLECTIONS
Our school is keen to develop in our pupils an awareness of the needs of others. This is nurtured by holding various fund raising events with special emphasis placed on appeals at Harvest, Christmas and Easter.

SCHOOL COMMUNITY RELATIONSHIPS PROJECT
Cullybackey High School has well established links with St. Mary's College, Clady. In addition to joint visits to places of local interest and in pursuit of recreational activities the schools have been involved in residential visits to the Horizon Adventure Centre, Westport.

Additionally under the auspices of Ballymena Learning Together pupils have been involved in personal development projects with pupils from the 8 other post primary schools in the area. Year 9 pupils are involved in community relations projects while a residential experience at Corrymeela gives Year 10 pupils an opportunity to spend a greater period of time together.

Participation with other schools has helped pupils to widen their horizons and gain an insight into the lives and experiences of other pupils who have very different backgrounds. Perhaps the most striking conclusion is that young people are very much the same in terms of outlook and aspirations!

We look forward to further development with all partner schools.
