Library and Learning Centre
Cullybackey High School opened its newly refurbished Library and Learning Centre on the 21st of February 2011. The Library will be open at lunch time and after school for pupils and staff to read for pleasure, complete homework, study, or work on projects individually or as a group.
The Library and Learning Centre has an extensive selection of fiction and non fiction books, which pupils may borrow. In addition, a Reference Section, seven computers and a printer are available to support pupil learning within the library facility.
A few initiatives are already underway, the first of which is the launch of the Accelerated Reading Programme among Year 8 pupils. This allows pupils to read books which specifically meet their individual needs. Secondly, a Paired Reading Partnership has been established between Sixth Form and Junior School Pupils, to promote the use of the library as a friendly and relaxed learning environment.
Literacy is a key element of the Department of Education's 'Every School a Good School' policy and the Library and Learning Centre will play a major role in promoting Literacy and the joy of reading to the pupils in Cullybackey High School.
The school is willing to commit to this and has used a substantial part of its own resources to provide a very useful and attractive new facility for learning and teaching.
We would wish to thank the Library Services of the North Eastern Education and Library Board for their support in revitalising the library stock and providing training to Mrs Amanda Hayes who has taken on the post of school librarian.
