GCSE History at Stormont 2011

Year 11 GCSE History pupils visited Stormont on Thursday 15th December 2011. They had the opportunity to gain a unique insight into the history of Parliament Buildings since the opening in 1932, through World War II, the Troubles and to the modern day.

During the very informative guided tour pupils stood in the Great Hall where many historic figures and politicians have witnessed and changed the history of our country. Pupils learned about historic figures such as Sir James Craig and Sir Edward Carson and were also given an up to date history on the current NI Executive.

The pupils also had the chance to visit the Assembly Chamber where the day to day business of the NI Executive is discussed. Pupils sat in the very seats that many of our politicians sit. Jane Boland was fascinated to learn that she was sitting in the seat of our First Minister Peter Robinson. Other pupils sat around the chamber and learned about the seating arrangements of the other political parties at Stormont.

This was a great day enjoyed thoroughly by the pupils and staff.
