End of Term Fundraising Event

10A1 help to raise funds for NI Children's Hospice

If you walk around the school any day of the week after break or lunch you will find lots of 1ps and 2ps lying around the corridor or the playground. One day after lunch Mrs Bristow collected about 25p in 1ps and 2ps lying in the corridor as she walked from the staffroom to her classroom. She realised most of it was from our class and talked to us about how pennies can become pounds. We therefore decided we would start a charity fund to prove how much we were actually wasting. Anytime in French class when we had spare pennies we put them into a jar that Mrs Bristow kept for us. After we had been collecting for a few months we decided to count up the money in the jar. We were totally surprised at how much the pennies were adding up into pounds!

10A1Counting The MoneyPresenting The Cheque

In class we discussed which charity we would like to support. As a class we decided to donate our money to the Northern Ireland Children's Hospice. A few of us also asked some of the other teachers if they had any money which they had collected for charity. The Maths Department donated very generously from money they had collected by lending out rulers, calculators and other equipment. Marie from the office also found a remarkable amount of money which had also been found over the last year. Mr Hall had collected money which he kindly donated also. Many teachers helped us with money they had collected from the floors and pupils during the year. In the end we had a grand total of £140!

Miss Peacock organized for her sister who is a nurse in the Northern Ireland Children's Hospice to come into school and receive the cheque. We are so pleased that the money that we collected can be put to good use and that we have been able to support a local charity. Remember that your pennies do turn into pounds and can benefit others. We hope to support another charity next year so please think twice before wasting your small change!

A big thank you to everyone who supported us in this venture!
