Manchester United player at Cullybackey High School (2010)

For the past three weeks almost a dozen pupils from Years 8, 9 & 10 have been receiving coaching from a former Manchester United, Everton, Notts. Forest and N. Ireland international footballer.

Ex-United midfielder, Tommy Jackson has been visiting the school to pass on his wealth of knowledge to those pupils who've signed up for his five-week course in the School Gym.

Each week, from 3.30 to 5.30, Tommy gives the lads an idea of what it's like to be a professional footballer, putting them through many of the skills drills that are used at the top clubs.

At the end of each session there is a series of 3-a-side games – this turns out to be the most enjoyable AND competitive part of each session with pupils trying to ‘put one over' on Tommy, Mr. Kelso and ‘One Other.' It hasn't happened yet though!!

Mr. Kelso said at the end of one very exciting session, “We look forward to seeing the results of this coaching on the football pitches.”
