Carnfunnock Maths Trail
On Monday 9th May 2011, students from Year 9 went on a Maths trip to Carnfunnock Country Park in Larne to complete the "MAGNIFICIENT MATHS TRAIL".
On our arrival at 10.15am, everyone was split up into teams and given a workbook which would take them around many of the features of the park.
Each team had a specific starting point and once they completed each task they were told where to move on to next.
The trail took the teams around the Amphitheatre, North Gate, Box Hedge Path, Pergola, Flower Garden, Time Garden and Rock Garden. In each activity the students had to use much of the mathematics they have studied throughout primary and secondary school. They were given the opportunity to use metre sticks and trundle wheels to help them work out many of the answers!
At 12.30pm it was time for lunch. Everyone sat in the Amphitheatre under the brightly coloured canopy.
After lunch there was some free time. Sadly the mini railway was not running but everyone had great fun running about the massive park while the teachers had a rest!
Overall, a brilliant day was had in Carnfunnock.
