Workshop on 'Macbeth' by William Shakespeare
On Thursday 18th November 2010 the Arty-fact Theatre Company conducted an interactive workshop based on Shakespeare's play, 'Macbeth', with year 10 and 11 pupils. Year 13 and 14 English literature pupils, including those from collaborating schools, also attended.
Using minimalist scenery and costumes the three actors presented key scenes from the play, interspersed with many opportunities for the pupils to analyse and discuss Shakespeare's language and even participate in the action.
Any opportunity to see Shakespeare performed enriches the pupils' literary experience and helps to make meaningful an aspect of English which many find challenging.
As English Literature is now offered by the school at both GCSE and A level, we hope to provide further opportunities for pupils to see the world of words coming alive on the stage.
