Year 10 BLT Corrymeela Trip
14th-15th October 2010Year 10 pupils James Neely, Ryan McDonald, Alan Casey, Ryan Kennedy and Ben Davidson attended a 2 day residential at Corrymeela, Ballycastle last week. The event was organised by Ballymena Learning Together (BLT) and involved Year 10 pupils from all nine schools in the Ballymena area.
Following a coach trip to the venue, pupils were divided into groups and participated in a range of activities including "ice breakers" and outdoor games. The most popular game was "stumps" where pupils were blindfolded and guided across an obstacle course of tree stumps by their peers.
After an enjoyable lunch of chicken goujons, pupils took part in many more group activities. In the evening they were free to mingle with their peers from the other schools and to view DVDs. Some had the chance to participate in an after dark beach walk.
On the second day, following breakfast and bed changing, large group discussions took place. Pupils examined issues surrounding Sectarianism and Identity, including the controversial issue of the wearing of various football shirts at events.
According to the Year 10s who attended the residential, the highlight was "the night walk on the beach" and the worst part was "coming home". The pupils would "highly recommend" the trip to any other pupils who have the opportunity to attend.
