AS Geography at Magilligan 2011

On Monday 7th November we went to Magilligan Field Centre to conduct a study of the Umbra Sand Dunes. To do this we worked in a group of four, we took soil samples to measure pH levels, amount of soil moisture and organic content. We also measured the dune profile to gain knowledge of dune height and gradient using a clinometer, ranging poles and tape measure. The last thing that we investigated was plant succession through the sand dunes. We used a 0.5m quadrat to identify the numbers and species of small plants. We really enjoyed our trip, there was great weather and we were warmly welcomed.
